The other day I featured a post on the new VSA agreement between Maersk, CMA-CGM and Mediterranean Shipping Company. Maersk is the worlds largest shipping company, whilst both CMA-CGM and MSC are two very fast growing global carriers in their own right. MSC now claims to be the second largest carrier in the world, rivaling Evergreen Marine.
Today I ran across the video below which talks about Med Shipping's use of Microsoft products to manage their business. It is a little bit of a commercial for Microsoft, but at the same time highlights MSC's creative use of technology to support their very fast market growth. 10 years ago MSC was a boutique carrier with tradelane specific interests and a quirky leadership team. Today, they are a truly global carrier with mega-tonnage to rival all other players.
A few years ago, when I was in the supply chain software business, I remember visiting MSC at their New York headquarters. I recall being very, very impressed with both their technology plans as well as their management. I also recall them being the only shipping company with offices on 5th Avenue in New York. Swiss/Italian is sexy in all ways!
