On December 7th, 1941 a Pan American Airways Boeing 314 flying boat was enroute to Auckland, New Zealand when news of the Japanese attack on Pearl harbor reached them by wireless. Directed to get the high tech airplane back to the US, the crew flew around the world westbound.
The video below is about that flight. I wouldn't mind the air miles for this one, but the trip was dangerous and lengthy.

Absolutely fascinating. I followed along using Google maps, since I'm not so familiar with Asia and African geography. That's an epic journey!
